C.W. Smith C.W. Smith is the award-winning author of seven novels, including Thin Men of Haddam, Country Music, The Vestal Virgin Room, Buffalo Nickel, Hunter's Trap, Understanding Women and, most recently, Gabriel's Eye. His short stories have appeared in Mademoiselle, Vision, Southwest Review, Sunstone Review, Carolina Quarterly, Quartet, American Short Fiction, The Missouri Review and other magazines. A collection of short stories, Letters from the Horse Latitudes was published in 1994. He is also the author of Uncle Dad, a much praised autobiographical work about children after a divorce. The recipient of two fellowships form the National Endowment for the Arts, Smith has been awarded several fiction prizes including the Frank O'Connor Memorial Short Story Award from Quartet magazine and the Texas Institute of Letters top prize for best novel (twice). In addition he has received numerous awards for his non-fiction. He is married and lives in Dallas, where he is Professor of English at Southern Methodist University.
